Happy Anniversary!

I have absolutely nothing special planned for today, and thus nothing extensive to report here. But I didn't want the date to pass unremarked. Today is the fifteenth anniversary of my blog. It's been a fun ride; I still enjoy it; I have no plans to end it soon. Thank you to all who have participated and continue to participate. Every comment makes this work a little more rewarding.

I'll try to do something special for the 20th.

  1. Happy Anniversary! Thank you for cataloging and chronologizing all those games so that they aren't lost to time, allowing some of us to re-visit memories of our own past or just games we might've been interested in but weren't around or didn't have the time back then. And for taking us on an entertaining journey through your writing. And for playing through games like Knightmare so that we don't have to.

15 years comes out to 131490 hours in real-time, which would be enough for 483 full playthroughs of Fate: Gates of Dawn. Here's to the next 15!

  3. Congratulations! This blog has been following me for many, many years. Interests use to shift over time but somehow I’m still very interested in your blog and are looking forward to every new post. All the best!

  4. Congratulations!
I've been reading your blog for about ten years as of now, and I'm far from the only one who had stayed around that long, seeing the comments above. It takes a lot to make people follow you for that long.

  5. Congratulations! And thank you for doing something so important and necessary for the history of CRPGs, also creating a whole community of followers interested in it.

  6. Congratulations! Doing something like this for 15 years with overall very high consistency is pretty remarkable.

  8. Parabéns 🥳 Seu blog é incrível. Algumas entradas, como Pool of Radiante, já li uma dezena de vezes ao longo desses anos.

  12. Congrats! This blog is one of the bright points of my time on the internet these days. Perhaps that doesn't say much given the enshittification of the internet, but truly it'd be a kindness that this wonderful rabbit hole exists either way.

  13. Congrats, post-apocalyptic banner artwork coming soon ;)

  17. Stumbled on this blog somewhere near the start of it, then forgot about it only to rediscover it during your Fate playthrough. Been an avid reader ever since. Thanks so much for keeping us all informed and entertained!

  18. Happy anniversary, sir! If you need anniversary ideas, well, I'm still waiting for the glossy hardcover compilation of all these posts...sure would be nice to have an overpriced Kickstarter or a collaboration with Bitmap or something, for those of us 20th-century types who like overpaying for hardcopy books.

    1. That would be really something, I'd happily overpay for a slightly edited phone book version of this blog.

  19. Congratulations, dear Addict!
I've been only following your for ten years of those fifteen, but it's been fun! Glad to see you still motivated, and I hope you get to still do a few contemporaty games on the side.
If I had to guess, you will be playing Baldur's Gate for the 20th ;). Maybe it won't even be that out of order, considering there's not much more pre-1993 stuff, and the number of games 1994-1997 goes down.

  20. Well deserved congratulations. Lets hope blogspot lasts as long as you do.

  21. happy anniversary.. I dont remember how long I follow this blog, but I posted 12 year ago about it on reddit: https://old.reddit.com/r/rpg_gamers/comments/q2cjf/the_crpg_addict_is_back_on_track_with_one_goal/

And I was reading for a few years at that point. So I dont participate much. But enjoyed reading from France for most of my life

  23. Wow, has it already been five years since the "Ten years" series of posts? Time sure does fly if you're having fun reading this great blog. Congratulations!

Your posting frequency over this long period continues to amaze me and I always look forward to seeing a new entry and your thoughts on another game(play session).

  25. Chet, your blog is THE best place on the Internet, and I write this 100% straight (would take a long time to explain why).

  26. Commiting 15 years to a project is already special enough. Congratulations!

  27. I can say that this blog is a go to stop on the interwebs for me. You inspired me to do my own project and I appreciate that. Even if my wife does not... hahahahaha

You keep posting and I'll keep reading with the occasional comment!

  28. Been reading this blog for most of the 15 years and I just wanted to say thanks for getting me through some tough days. Being able to shut off the outside world and focus on some obscure old CRPG for 30 minutes a couple times a week is a great mental safety valve. Cheers!

  29. So awesome, thanks!

  30. I always look forward to the games you bring up, document, and share with the world. Here's to another five years!

  34. Do you have stats on engagement or activity around different games or posts?

I would love to know which ones generated the most attention!

    1. The number of comments on a given post should give you a good estimate, when 'Ultima Underworld' has easily more than a hundred, but an ugly indie game from back when gets around three.

    2. Unless an unrelated discussion about (A)D&D editions comes up, then it gets around three hundred.

  35. Reader for just over 8 years. Congrats on reaching such a milestone, and thank you for playing through and documenting so many weird and wonderful games!

  37. Congratulations and best wishes for (at least) fifteen more years of blogging

I started following this blog while looking around for something that wasn't a walkthrough about Wizardry 6.
It was just a couple of months more of eleven years ago. somehow it still feels like it was just yesterday.

Thank you for your always enjoyable work

  38. Congratulations on hitting 15! And here is to the many more to come!!

  39. Congratulations, this blog is still one of my favourite little corners of the internet after all these years, hope for many more to come!

I welcome all comments about the material in this blog, and I generally do not censor them. However, please follow these rules:

1. DO NOT COMMENT ANONYMOUSLY. If you do not want to log in or cannot log in with a Google Account, choose the "Name/URL" option and type a name (you can leave the URL blank). If that doesn't work, use the "Anonymous" option but put your name of choice at the top of the entry.

2. Do not link to any commercial entities, including Kickstarter campaigns, unless they're directly relevant to the material in the associated blog posting. (For instance, that GOG is selling the particular game I'm playing is relevant; that Steam is having a sale this week on other games is not.) This also includes user names that link to advertising.

3. Please avoid profanity and vulgar language. I don't want my blog flagged by too many filters. I will delete comments containing profanity on a case-by-case basis.

4. I appreciate if you use ROT13 for explicit spoilers for the current game and upcoming games. Please at least mention "ROT13" in the comment so we don't get a lot of replies saying "what is that gibberish?"

5. Comments on my blog are not a place for slurs against any race, sex, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, or mental or physical disability. I will delete these on a case-by-case basis depending on my interpretation of what constitutes a "slur."

Blogger has a way of "eating" comments, so I highly recommend that you copy your words to the clipboard before submitting, just in case.

I read all comments, no matter how old the entry. So do many of my subscribers. Reader comments on "old" games continue to supplement our understanding of them. As such, all comment threads on this blog are live and active unless I specifically turn them off. There is no such thing as "necro-posting" on this blog, and thus no need to use that term.

I will delete any comments that simply point out typos. If you want to use the commenting system to alert me to them, great, I appreciate it, but there's no reason to leave such comments preserved for posterity.

I'm sorry for any difficulty commenting. I turn moderation on and off and "word verification" on and off frequently depending on the volume of spam I'm receiving. I only use either when spam gets out of control, so I appreciate your patience with both moderation tools.
