New Action RPG Released: Astro Aqua Kitty

Someone who has given me a lot of help over the years is on the team behind Tikipod's Astro Aqua Kitty, just released on PC and console. He didn't ask me to mention it here, but he's done so much for this blog that I wanted to encourage readers to check it out. Astro Aqua Kitty is a sequel to 2013's Aqua Kitty. My friend describes it as "90% action, 10% RPG." The official description is:

The Aqua Kitty cats have launched into space in an all new action RPG shoot-em-up adventure!

Pick your crew, then blast off to investigate mysterious water filled asteroids.
Battle bizarre enemies, mine magnificent gems, grab new weapons, install enhancing devices, and unlock your crews' unique skills as you level up XP.

Just watch out for marauding pirate rabbits, always trying to be first to the loot!

I don't know if my friend wants to be mentioned by name, so I'll remain vague, but if you want to reward someone who's given me assistance on this blog, and/or if the game looks to your taste, please give it a try. I'll look forward to it myself in a few years.

Comment if you want, but I'll probably delete this entry in a few months. I really need some kind of "news" feature on this blog where I can post temporary announcements.

  2. It is very nice indeed. I'm that aforementioned friend and I'm very thankful and also a bit upset at the same time (I asked Chet not to mention it on the blog) so I'm very confused and not really sure what to say :) Maybe you should delete this entry within a few days instead of months?

    1. Why did you not want it mentioned on the blog? I wouldn’t have known about this game if it wasn’t out on here. Anyway, congrats on releasing the game :)

    2. Thank you, it was a long journey :) I thought the game was not a good fit for the blog but maybe I was wrong. I'm glad somebody found it interesting. Thank you Chet!

    3. Congrats! If you really want him to take it down, I'm sure he will, but exposure is a good thing!

    4. If it's of any consolation, I bought the original and enjoyed but wouldn't have looked for a sequel till sewing this. Have faith Gabor! :)

    6. Anyone who has a problem with Chet plugging a friend's project is a serious Doof! Glad they put this here, because I doubt I would have found it otherwise.

  4. You can set up a sidebar widget with text, a link, and an image, that you can header "NEWS", and swap out the text with new text whenever you have something new to say there.

  5. Visibility is good :) I was afraid that the overall reaction would be more negative (because the game isn't a real RPG).

    1. But it's kitties! Who on Earth would have a negative reaction to kitties?

    2. Cats and chiptunes. It doesn't get any better.

I think a lot of people who read this blog like old games, and to some extend retro games, in general. I bought the original by mistake - I should have known a new game can't be that cheap - and while this is not usually my type of game, and it turns out I'm pretty lousy at it, I'm having fun.

    4. And pixels. I really like this colorful 16bit graphics style which reminds me of a certain kind of shoot'em ups from that era like Parodius or Blood Money. Someone coined the term cute'em up for these I think.

  6. So Aqua Kitty: Milk mine defender is getting a sequel with RPG elements. Interesting, I might check it out. I got the first game on the Vita and it was an enjoyable little time sink. :)

I welcome all comments about the material in this blog, and I generally do not censor them. However, please follow these rules:

1. Do not link to any commercial entities, including Kickstarter campaigns, unless they're directly relevant to the material in the associated blog posting. (For instance, that GOG is selling the particular game I'm playing is relevant; that Steam is having a sale this week on other games is not.) This also includes user names that link to advertising.

2. Please avoid profanity and vulgar language. I don't want my blog flagged by too many filters. I will delete comments containing profanity on a case-by-case basis.

3. NO ANONYMOUS COMMENTS. It makes it impossible to tell who's who in a thread. If you don't want to log in to Google to comment, either a) choose the "Name/URL" option, pick a name for yourself, and just leave the URL blank, or b) sign your anonymous comment with a preferred user name in the text of the comment itself.

4. I appreciate if you use ROT13 for explicit spoilers for the current game and upcoming games. Please at least mention "ROT13" in the comment so we don't get a lot of replies saying "what is that gibberish?"

5. Comments on my blog are not a place for slurs against any race, sex, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, or mental or physical disability. I will delete these on a case-by-case basis depending on my interpretation of what constitutes a "slur."

Blogger has a way of "eating" comments, so I highly recommend that you copy your words to the clipboard before submitting, just in case.

I read all comments, no matter how old the entry. So do many of my subscribers. Reader comments on "old" games continue to supplement our understanding of them. As such, all comment threads on this blog are live and active unless I specifically turn them off. There is no such thing as "necro-posting" on this blog, and thus no need to use that term.

I will delete any comments that simply point out typos. If you want to use the commenting system to alert me to them, great, I appreciate it, but there's no reason to leave such comments preserved for posterity.

I'm sorry for any difficulty commenting. I turn moderation on and off and "word verification" on and off frequently depending on the volume of spam I'm receiving. I only use either when spam gets out of control, so I appreciate your patience with both moderation tools.
