As such, I deal with grandiloquent, latin-derived words in science (yes, I see the irony in this wording). I often use this for names of characters. In Icewind Dale I used genera of different reptiles for my characters, i.e., Crotalus or Eunectes. The cool thing about this is anyone can think of an animal or plant that embodies the character they are imagining and do a quick google for the scientific name for some inspiration.rocklobsternoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-12157856068501792832021-10-04T08:07:25.240-04:002021-10-04T08:07:25.240-04:00I have made it to the final battle with Werdna twi...I have made it to the final battle with Werdna twice- once with a party of artists from the DADA movement, and again with all six Jackson brothers.100FloorsOfFrightshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07625564667909827929noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-15292054677538898632017-03-23T00:14:03.707-04:002017-03-23T00:14:03.707-04:00If the game gives me an option to rename character...If the game gives me an option to rename characters, I usually do. Mara for example is much more comfortable with games that give her a character. She was much less interested in in Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2015 then MDotP: Origins as 2015 had you be a generic planeswalker you got to design a little, whereas Origins had you take the role of planeswalkers from MtG lore. In a jRPG, you usually control a prewritten character, while in a wRPG you control a character created by you. Mass Effect, for example, doesn't blur the line because you create Shepard, albeit from a limited menu of choices as far as backstory and such are concerned. Prewritten NPCs, even party members, have been a wRPG staple since at least Ultima IV.

jRPGS do tend to have better handled stories, directly because of this (a premade main character can be much more tightly integrated into a plot), but wRPGs have always tried to give you a good story.Gnomanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13920812227941556716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-21977649562003594192017-03-20T17:43:10.640-04:002017-03-20T17:43:10.640-04:00I have heard that the point of a western CRPG is t...I have heard that the point of a western CRPG is to tell your own story, while a JRPG is to live out a story the authors have written. It's bob the innkeeper. It's bob the guard captain. It's bob the stablehand. So I used dice rolls to randomly generate names. I assign each consonant to a number on a d20 (alphabetically is easiest) and assign the vowels to a d6 (y being a vowel in this case). Roll them both and jot down the results. After a few rolls, let your creativity take you. I'm created all kinds of names this way.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18246253547887956099noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-79503797562651175552013-12-18T13:27:36.739-05:002013-12-18T13:27:36.739-05:00I guess with Mass Effect they kind of solved the v...I guess with Mass Effect they kind of solved the voice over problem, by giving you a fixed last name, and letting you pick the first name.
Since you're an army type, it makes sense for people to use your last name in any event.

For tabletop RPG's we tend to pick a real world nationality for a campaign, and then pick character names from that, using baby name lists online. To give an Example, I once created a Mage called Gelidus, he should mainly focus on ice magic, so the name is derived from the latin word for ice (glacies) (gelato in italien).Troikhttp://www.epstacy.denoreply@blogger.com
