BG1 had been out for a year or two before it, and had SOME of the same NPC interaction (even a couple who hated each other), so I think more likely the BG2 team was building on themes from the previous game.

I never explained the whole "isometric" thing. Maybe one of my commenters did. Never mind that "isometric" is used generically for that type of interface; the moment I use it, some pedant comes along and criticizes its use because the angles in this particular game aren't technically equal. So I favor "oblique angle" these days just to not have to deal with them.CRPG Addicthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01238237377918550322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-32191329292437320372016-10-07T20:57:42.531-04:002016-10-07T20:57:42.531-04:00I owned BG1 and BG2. But I also played Jagged Alliance 2. If has the same ...uh isometric view.. (i need to re-read the article where you explained this). It was more a strategy game with RPG elements (mercs have stats that level as they gain experience in that area - ie hit target with gun = increased aim).

Anyway, The characters (hired mercs) interacted with each other. Some liked each other and got along well. Others hated certain mercs. You can start the game with certain mercs that will literally argue and start shooting each other as soon as the game begins. I did it once for fun, then reloaded and picked more sensible mercs. Also, some mercs will refuse to sign on as long as you employ certain other mercs.

My main point on bringing this up. I wonder if JA2's character interaction had an influence on BG2 or if they came up with it independent. Or possibly another game before both influenced them both. I think JA1 had similar merc interactions though I'm not as familiar with that game. The JA games are known for their mercs who each have a certain style and personality as well as their interactions between each other.

Oh yea, and some really like other mercs so much that they go haywire when that merc dies. I believe some will go out of your control. They'll try and get revenge, but I could be wrong on this part. I do know you can lose control of mercs during certain situations (hate each other = gun fight).mikenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-63741388950114339352016-07-03T17:56:12.483-04:002016-07-03T17:56:12.483-04:00Also, Roleplay-wise, the Drow are famous for not f...Also, Roleplay-wise, the Drow are famous for not following deals and backstabbing....Canageekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03770924810559440307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-9756158685904758052016-05-29T22:56:57.960-04:002016-05-29T22:56:57.960-04:00Final Fantasy I-8 -> Final Fantasy Tactics. -&g...Final Fantasy I-8 -> Final Fantasy Tactics. -> Chocobo Racing -> Final Fantasy XIII (Action RPG)Canageekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03770924810559440307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-45425061987008883662015-08-13T22:03:00.651-04:002015-08-13T22:03:00.651-04:00If you collect Kenku eggs on level 6 you can use t...If you collect Kenku eggs on level 6 you can use them to bribe the Drow guards. Food is consumed quite slowly. Even if you run out, there are respawning monsters that drop food rations. It's just lame.

However, assuming that they actually made a challenge dungeon with food as a timer, there would be tons of pissed off gamers who ran out and had to abort their games. It's not really making your characters eat that's bad, it's the fact that if you run out of food your whole game is messed up.

But I suppose that's realistic! Starving to death on a multi-week trip underground. Although in reality you'd just go back to the surface for more supplies. You could try a Fighter's-Only party (in D&D, we call such groups Class Acts) and it is one of the most explainable groups to exist in RP terms [Fighter's Guild for full warrior parties, hailing from same temple for all-Cleric groups and so on]. For a mixed-class party on tabletops, we always had to have some convoluted reasoning as to how the mage met the thief and how they both met the paladin, yet the paladin didn't haul the thief off to the authorities for being a thief, and some such.

The most hardcore of all is to play EoTB with only 6 NPC warriors (Keigar, Dorhum, Calandra, Anya, Thagor & Isharn).
