I would quit then reload, swap disks, and quit again. This way I'd have backup. Periodically, I'd backup a 3rd disk in case I forgot to backup the second disk. I'd lose some progress, but wouldn't have to start over. I also did a money cheat of sorts. I would gamble everything and would quit after winning and do a backup. It was bit tedious, but I'd end up with enough funds to just focus on main quest and max out my vehicles. I did do most of the sidequests that I came across. I never did manage to enter any place between the cities. I never even heard of such a thing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-59373275559803703802017-03-13T03:55:46.263-04:002017-03-13T03:55:46.263-04:00I found this game sometime around early 2015. Went through it in 2 weeks after I found out that the Casino actually does use the concept of a deck; save state, hit away and take note of the cards. Restore state, hit/stand accordingly. It's an easy way to end up with enough cash to build a decent car and pay for repairs. Fair warning: Don't win over $910k or the IRS will take away $350k in back taxes & fees.

I would also like to note that the C64 version is better on combat. The slowness of the game works for you; cars aren't that fast and you can act accordingly. I don't think I would've been able to finish the DOS game at all.Danixhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03716892543057796896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-12485979256136570072016-12-29T17:22:58.781-05:002016-12-29T17:22:58.781-05:00I made my fortune by gambling in the early part of...I made my fortune by gambling in the early part of the game. Because using the money you start with to buy your own vehicle is crazy difficult, but until your prestige hits a certain limit, you can go to Amateur Nights (I believe they're on Friday) and enter without a car; they provide stock cars, and you get to keep any salvage you get (and the money), but not the car itself.

Doing Amateur Night until they won't let you in anymore is a vital part to surviving the early part of the game with your sanity intact. Take it from someone who tried to win with Division 5 matches with an all-rear-armor, flamethrower-on-the-back, ram-em-in-reverse tactic on a $2,000 car ;)Charles "Alpha Lackey" Mousseauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08638634304373189520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-30321256750454819612016-08-10T03:34:26.945-04:002016-08-10T03:34:26.945-04:00New Jersey drivers sound like the one I encountere...New Jersey drivers sound like the one I encountered in Montreal.Canageekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03770924810559440307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-21997539112510924892016-05-23T04:39:45.363-04:002016-05-23T04:39:45.363-04:00Just wanted to offer this piece of useless informa...Just wanted to offer this piece of useless information:
Origin was frequently referred to as "OSI" by the Ultima Online community both in the game and websites/forums, at least when I was actively playing (1997 to 2005).
I completely forgot about it until I saw the AutoDuel screenshot.Mysteryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03592563885063548117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-28233375474339068252016-03-19T00:06:58.454-04:002016-03-19T00:06:58.454-04:00That would be pretty interesting to see. That would be pretty interesting to see.ActionVestAdventurenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-68453696319955914922016-03-19T00:04:23.598-04:002016-03-19T00:04:23.598-04:00I have vague memories of this game, or maybe my br...I have vague memories of this game, or maybe my brain was intentionally blocking it out. Back then, without the Internet and before I really understood things like programming limitations, my mind could nurture the possibility that I might find the right set of roads to go all the way to Los Angeles or something. Often, what excites us about a game are the possibilities (real or hallucinated) rather than the realities.

I suppose it's the same when I used to gaze westward from some Pacific Beach and think about all the exotic cultures that must exist where the ocean ended. A friend of mine also had the game and told me you could go into the car garage and build a car that was oversight and over my available funds, just max everything out... I can't remember what to do after that, but I recall I followed his instructions and I ended up with basically unlimited cash. Yeah, I won the game on the C64 but cheated to do it. On the Amiga version I didn't use the cash cheat, I think I tried, but it didn't work. I won the game on the Amiga as well, but had to earn it, and found it much like you said above; spending money as soon as I got it for upkeep. I had to get very good in the arena and developed a system for each enemy location to take them out. I also gambled my butt off.TD Bauerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03424146778645377763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-52942504904299068402016-03-14T09:06:01.761-04:002016-03-14T09:06:01.761-04:00I loved this game as a kid and even finished it. It's hard to remember a day when one did not have the Internet to fall back on, but in the 80's, this game as as open world as it got. I would play just to find all the towns. Thanks for your work. Also, I've been looking for a little known rpg that I played briefly around the same time. I think it's name was "wrath of denthor" or something similar on the apple II. For it's time, it was an innovative game, but not without flaw and time passing has only increased the flaws. Then again I am prejudiced. I do not like computer role playing games with real time or arcade style combat. There is a wall for me between say Ultima, or Gold Box and Atari Adventure or Mattel's Dungeon and Dragons.
