Rolled him up with max str/con and specialized him in monoswords so he was a beast in melee combat. The big battle is also winnable if you high enough level and bring a ton of grenades/rocket launchers.
This area is much easier if you make this section of the game one of last areas you explore instead of the first area you try after getting your ship. As I recall (mind you its been 20+ years) Buck Rogers rejoins your party and says something to the effect that he didn't think it was possible to take the bridge. The game then continues like nothing happened.

As far as the enhanced weapons go, I recall I took a stock rocket launcher, and modified it to become a 5d10+250 (the game stores the full attributes of each item in the characters inventory slots, so only my party had the enhanced version of the weapons, not the enemy). I suspect I had also rigged my parties armor.

Side note.. I had tried to create a rocket launcher of healing (5d10-200) for quick whole party patch ups, however the engine imposed a minimum damage of 0, foiling my plan.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-72483790146196759012015-06-29T14:02:11.506-04:002015-06-29T14:02:11.506-04:00In the Genesis port Buck would actively dodge outs...In the Genesis port Buck would actively dodge outside the explosion radius for grenades. I have not played Arcanum, but I know in that characters can be biased towards one or the other, i.e. gadgets or magic.

In Wizardry 8, Gadgeteers use tools and are not dissimilar to Bards who play magical instruments, and again there are mages who have a mana-pile, but the stuff they do is effectively of the same kind as that of the other classes.

Really, a lot of games do it, the powers are balanced and different in some effects but equal overall. A grenade might demand a fixed amount of carried resources, a fireball might require mana that charges overnight - they are both area-effect weapons with certain powers and limitations.Gerry Quinnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04078394659680797175noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-18487743262382319512013-12-20T19:06:39.963-05:002013-12-20T19:06:39.963-05:00Just one strategy game called Spellcross I thinkJust one strategy game called Spellcross I thinkAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-35660311597662693092013-12-20T18:45:51.642-05:002013-12-20T18:45:51.642-05:00Oh yeah, of course having him appear makes a lot o...Oh yeah, of course having him appear makes a lot of sense.
