I'm not surprised I missed the alternative Cadorna paths, however, given how much they rely on inventory items in precise places and a specific chain of events.CRPG Addicthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01238237377918550322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-3781123167685199852023-02-16T06:50:04.693-05:002023-02-16T06:50:04.693-05:00SHEETS OF GOLD
Funny this isn't found online r...SHEETS OF GOLD
Funny this isn't found online regarding the "Sheets of Gold" being useless. They are not. First, go to the Library and loot these items. Split the stack and keep them in the inventory of your 'Thief' characters. When you go to the Cadorna house retrieve the box, then go to the Thieves Guild and they will offer to open the box and reseal it for a part of the treasure (just reorganize your party and put your thief 'first' before the dialog encounter). If memory serves me correctly, in the old C64 version, if you had the gold sheets on you then you would get a bigger 'reward' (from the split) and there was different dialog. Keep in mind you CAN NOT have Skullcrusher in your party.

Afterwards, go back to New Phalan and meet with Councilman Cadorna. He will not realize the box has been opened otherwise he becomes suspicious and you'll notice it in the 'text' story after you give it back to him (if you just had the Thieves reseal it on their own versus using the gold sheets). In my game play, I duplicated this item and gave a 'gold sheet' to each of the six party members.

MANUAL OF BODILY HEALTH
Lastly, I read people had issues with the manual not working? In the Amiga, PC and C-64 games, you had to 'rest' for 30 days for the stat increase to occur. The game mechanics copied the original hard copy of the Dungeon's Master Guide. Unlike the hard copy, you can reuse this item on your characters to get multiple effects (duplicate cheat).

Important to note if you do this multiple times then some of the side quests were timed. To prevent missing out on these it was better to duplicate the book and set the CON scores to 25 for party members (including NPCS). This maxed score will carry over into the sequels.

TRICK: After obtaining the book, rush back to town, recreate a party and raise all the level 1 characters CONs to 25. This will give you max HPs per level (with save/load cheats). You could save your characters in the directory and then 'reload' them into an earlier game (save) BEFORE you got the book. FYI - it takes 210 days to increase CON from 18 to 25. Just use one book per party member and take notice of the stat increases, rest 30 days, rinse and repeat...

Lastly, reloading the newly modified characters into an earlier save-game will allow you to pick up some of the side quests that are timed (i.e. getting the Magician in the Graveyard, finding the Thri-Kreen burrow with the Queen who upon her death gives some really good loot, etc.). I don't remember the reward but I think it was high level plate mail and a magic trident. There are other 'timed' mini-side quests in the Amiga, C-64 and PC versions that were almost always missed and cancelled if you progressed through the game too fast. Some of the missions are also cancelled based on what quests you finished with the Council (main quests). Problem here is that most of these side quests are either rather dungeons in the Wilderness which if your party is level 1 - 3, can be difficult or can be triggered with the Council assuming you don't complete the main story lines too fast... The high level dungeons (mini-quests) were really intended for that player who saved their characters after completing the game and then reloaded the game from the beginning wanting to do a second run-through (HINT HINT).

Enjoy!Veerwingnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-28068145699297786632022-07-23T22:57:01.637-04:002022-07-23T22:57:01.637-04:00I'm playing through it right now and would you...I'm playing through it right now and would you belive my first "roll" with OHLO was a Bag of Holding. I saved the game and reloaded about 30 times to see what else I could get and other than a Long Sword +2, a Cloak of Displacement, and a Ring of Protection +2, there was nothing to speak of. I ended up, after all of those re-rolls going with my very first item, the Bag of Holding. The problem is, it seems buggy. Ssjlee9's excellent walkthrough talks about having to "make several pick up attempts" to get it to work...which I don't understand because you can't drop items in the game. Nevertheless, it does lower encumbrance by about 2000 for my fighter, so that's good (though ssjlee9 says it's supposed to be 5000). Maybe I'll get it to work one day.Futilehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14444427580693555652noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-56484223608779797442022-04-10T19:08:39.018-04:002022-04-10T19:08:39.018-04:00That's awesome. So your wizard can memorize any, say, 6 spells and then cast them like a sorcerer would. Almost - because another important addition is that after 40 years and 4 editions, you can finally use up a higher-level slot to cast a lower-level spell. It has always annoyed me to no end in previous DnD edition that your super powerful wizard can memorize 1 fireball and 3 magic missiles, but memorizing 4 magic missiles at the expense of fireball is somehow beyond his capabilities.

Honestly, 5E is the best thing that happened to DnD magic ever. It's best of both worlds - you still have to prepare and plan ahead, but you also get a lot of situational flexibility.poster formerly known as VKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09766031949641666286noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162314467762792782.post-53348500276680052322021-11-03T09:19:18.565-04:002021-11-03T09:19:18.565-04:00I'm afraid "5E style slot system" me...I'm afraid "5E style slot system" means very little to me.
